CBG (cannabigerol)

Precursor cannabinoid from which THC and CBD are biosynthesised; limited clinical evidence to date.

Cannabigerol is the biosynthetic precursor from which both THC and CBD are derived within the cannabis plant. Most strains contain only small quantities of CBG at harvest. Pre-clinical research has explored CBG for inflammatory bowel conditions, glaucoma, and some forms of pain, but robust clinical-trial evidence in humans is limited. CBG is not a primary target of most South African medical-cannabis formulations; products emphasising CBG are typically novel and carry less rigorous clinical support than THC- or CBD-dominant options.
