Laptop on a sunlit desk — the remote-first workflow of the Section 21 assessment and approval process.

Process

From assessment to delivery in 3–7 days

Four steps. Fully telemedicine. You never need to visit a clinic. Below is exactly what happens at each stage and what you’ll need from your side.

1

1 min

Create your secure patient account with your email — we send a magic link, no passwords to remember.

2

Consult

15–20 min

A HPCSA-registered doctor reviews your case via secure video or text — your choice.

3

SAHPRA approval

2–3 business days

Section 21 application is filed per product and reviewed by SAHPRA — no patient action required.

4

Pharmacy delivery

3–5 days

Your chosen partner pharmacy dispenses and arranges courier delivery anywhere in South Africa.

1

1 min

Your account is the secure home for your assessment, prescriptions, and order history. We use POPIA-aligned storage and encrypted sessions. You only need a working email; we send a one-time magic link to verify your identity. No social login, no third-party cookies, no marketing newsletter sign-up. Once you are in, you can start the clinical assessment immediately or come back to it later — your draft is saved between sessions.

2

Consult

15–20 min

You complete a structured clinical questionnaire — chief complaint, history, current medications, allergies, prior cannabis exposure. A HPCSA-registered doctor on our panel reviews it and either accepts the case asynchronously or invites you to a brief video consultation when more context is needed. You may also request a video consult yourself. Doctors prescribe independently; Docto24 does not influence the clinical decision. If your case is declined, the consultation fee is still due — that is the doctor’s clinical time.

3

SAHPRA approval

2–3 business days

For each prescribed product, the doctor files a Section 21 application with SAHPRA on your behalf. Each application carries a R400 SAHPRA fee. SAHPRA typically issues the authorisation within 2–3 business days, valid for 6 months. You see the live status in your dashboard — submitted, under review, approved, or rejected with reason. We do not influence SAHPRA timing, but we file complete applications first time to minimise back-and-forth.

4

Pharmacy delivery

3–5 days

Once SAHPRA approves, we route the prescription to a partner pharmacy you select from the catalogue. The pharmacy verifies stock, dispenses against the Section 21 authorisation, and arranges courier delivery directly to you. Delivery cost is set by the pharmacy and shown before you confirm. You pay the pharmacy directly — Docto24 never holds medication or money for product. Repeat dispenses run monthly within the 6-month prescription validity.
