Indica vs Sativa

Traditional strain classification with limited clinical relevance — cannabinoid and terpene profile matter more.

Indica and sativa are traditional morphological classifications of cannabis plants. In popular use they are associated with different effects (indica = sedating, sativa = uplifting) but this mapping is clinically imprecise. What matters therapeutically is the cannabinoid profile (THC:CBD ratio, total dose) and — to a lesser extent — the terpene profile. Prescribers focus on measured cannabinoid content rather than the indica/sativa label.
