Schedule 6
Higher-risk prescription medicines; includes THC-dominant cannabis products.
Schedule 6 is the higher-risk prescription-medicine tier in South Africa — it includes products with significant abuse or dependence potential. THC-dominant cannabis formulations typically fall into Schedule 6. Prescriptions must name the patient, be dated, and dispensed by a licensed pharmacy. Section 21 authorisation is required when the specific product is not registered for routine SA use, which is the case for most medical cannabis products.
